چکیده
In the preceding report (p. 1354 of this issue) it was demonstrated that normal pregnant females at term respond with a striking fall in blood pressure to autonomic blockade with high selective spinal anesthesia or TEAC. With the former, severe side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, cyanosis, fatigue and other symptoms of imminent circulatory collapse, were present while with the latter, these symptoms were absent although the hypotensive levels were the same. This suggested to us the necessity for further investigation on the nature of blood pressure fall with high selective spinal anesthesia in pregnant women. Among the factors considered of importance in the genesis of spinal hypotension are the following:

Comparison of effects of 5% Lidocaine and 5% Meperidine plus 5% Lidocaine on complications and duration of postoperative analgesia for cesarean section
Introduction: Nowadays, spinal anesthesia is associated with few complications in many surgical practices especially the elective caesarean which is taken as a suitable replacement for general anesthesia. Different drugs are used for spinal anesthesia. This study aims to compare lidocaine 5% in combination with meperidine 5% plus lidocaine 5% for spinal anesthesia in non-emergency cesarean pati...

The contribution of sympathetic constrictor impulses to arteriolar tone is now recognized as playing an important though sometimes variable role in the maintenance of increased peripheral resistance in some patients with hypertension. However, lack of a clear understanding of the exact nature of autonomic influences and of their importance in relation to other pressor factors has complicated th...

Background: Although various anesthetic techniques can be used in different kinds of surgeries, spinal anesthesia has received considerable attention for the lower abdomen and lower extremities surgeries and cesarean section. This study aimed at comparing the effect of adding epinephrine 1:1000 and 1:10000 to lidocaine and fentanyl in spinal anesthesia on the prolongation of paralysis, analgesi...
متن کاملCOMPARISON OF HEMODYNAMIC CHANGES DUE TO INTRAVENOUS OXYTOCIN INFUSION DURING GENERAL AND SPINAL ANESTHESIA IN ELECTIVE CESAREAN SECTION
Background & Aims: Postpartum hemorrhage is one of the life-threatening complications after labor and cesarean section. Its prevalence is 6 percent. Metratonia is the most common cause of this complication. Some medications can prevent it. Oxytocin is the most common uterine vasoconstrictor and is used routinely after delivery for decreasing hemorrhage. The aim of this study is to compare hemod...
